It was the beginning of summer, and by the time it was over the sun was already beating down on the desert landscape. I had spent all morning with my feet in the hot sand, and was ready for a break. Suddenly it hit me that I could just hike for the rest of the day, and not really think about it.

The last time I went for a break was one of those weekends when I was still in the middle of my work week, and all the kids and I went up to the house to check on them. This was about a day before we could get back on our feet. We were pretty close to the house, so we got out the sun and walked around the house with no idea what was happening.

The final few days of our vacation were like this: I was out on the house on a beach and I was supposed to go hiking with my fellow hikers. I think that the best way to describe the last few days of vacation is to compare them to a series of days out on the town. I went to a pool with my friends and we went swimming. We went to a movie, sat in the dark and watched a movie. We went to the mall and shopped. I spent the last two days of the vacation with my family, including a day at the beach with my family.

I’m not sure I would have ever really thought about the beach as the place to be, but I do think it’s something we all need to get used to. Going to a beach is a great way to lose a few pounds.
